In the fall of 1947, Rev. Wilbern Ashworth arrived at Shady Grove, a single evangelist, preaching the Word with fervor and many received the Holy Ghost and were baptized in the precious name of Jesus. It was during this time that the Lord began to deal with Bro. Ashworth to build a church to service the Shady Grove Community. So, in October, 1947, the first 'church-building' began.

There was another thing God was dealing with Bro. Ashworth about... it was the scripture that says, 'he that findeth a wife, findeth a good thing...' And so, a beautiful union began in February, 1948 when he married Helen Clark of Singer, Louisiana. To that union God added three precious children; Gwen, Marilyn and Donnis... then spouses... and now grandchildren!

A second building was erected in the 1960's to accommodate the growing crowd. Still the Lord was adding to His work and blessing the capable efforts of Rev. Wilbern Ashworth, and the present sanctuary was built and dedicated to the Lord in 1980.

Thank you Bro. and Sis. Ashworth for the legacy you left us here at Shady Grove! Your leadership ablilities will live on forever through those you personally brought to the Lord. I know your reward is great in heaven. You are truly loved and missed!
